Delta man facing nine charges in alleged Ladner assaults

A Delta man will stand trial next year for his alleged role in a March assault in Ladner.

Wyatt James Culbertson, 38, faces five counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and two counts of assault regarding events that took place March 17 and March 30.

He also faces a charge of dangerous operation of a vehicle and a charge from May 2019 of breaching his conditions.

After several appearances in Surrey provincial court, his trial has been set to start in June 2020. Before that, he will appear in court on other procedural matters, including a pre-trial conference, in March and May of next year.

He will also be going to trial in a separate matter for breach of undertaking in a Surrey incident in November of this year.

Delta police began a four-month investigation following the alleged Ladner incident after a victim and third party came forward with allegations regarding assaults and threats.

The allegations concern incidents that involve two separate victims. Police say the victims were briefly known to the suspect.

“We’d like to thank the victims in these incidents for coming forward and reporting these events to police,” said Insp. Guy Leeson in a news release.
