The city will spend almost $104,000 to replace the backstop at Chalmers Park.
Council recently awarded the contract as the backstop at the 76A Avenue park, according to staff, is nearing the end of its lifespan and requires replacement.
The city’s latest strategic plan for parks recommended the establishment of an ongoing replacement cycle for all backstops.
With backstop replacements costing between $75,000-to-$150,000 each, an ongoing fund of $150,000 per year would be required to address backstop replacements.
While the Chalmers backstop is to be replaced, meanwhile, some of city’s other projects that had been planned have been put off due council having revised Delta’s financial plan due to COVID-19.
Among the changes is a delay in proceeding with some capital projects as well as new washrooms at Chalmers and Delview parks.
Other projects to be deferred to future years include the Cromie Park all-weather field conversion to grass, the Ladner lacrosse box roof design, as well as projects at Association Park and Gunderson Park, off-leash enclosures, pathway and parking lot renewals and others.
