The Delview Park washroom has clearly seen better days.

Aging washrooms will be replaced at a pair of city parks.

Council this week approved a $604,407 contract to build new washrooms at Delview and Chalmers parks.

A staff report notes the existing washroom at Delview has reached the end of its service life and replacement is required, while recent upgrades at Chalmers Park has heightened the need for a new permanent washroom amenity.

Coun. Jeannie Kanakos during council’s discussion expressed concern whether having two toilets for the new washrooms would be sufficient.

Parks, recreation and culture director Ken Kuntz said the design of the buildings would allow for an addition.

Meanwhile, the condition of Delta’s other public washrooms is currently undergoing an assessment by an external consultant retained by the city.

A staff report to the parks, recreation and culture commission noted the condition assessment will provide information on the life expectancy and/or proposed capital expenditures that may extend the use of the washrooms.

Many of the park washrooms, including several built in the early 1970s, are old and require funding to either replace or make capital improvements.

Field houses are also part of the assessment.
