Delta’s extreme weather shelter will open up once again Tuesday night (Dec. 11).

The opening was prompted due to the heavy rains and high winds in the weather forecast.

Gillian McLeod, corporate social planner with the City of Delta, said in an email that assume that the shelter will be open for the next few days as the weather does not appear to be improving.

The shelter is located at Ladner United Church (4960, 48th Ave.) and is open from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The shelter offers a warm place to sleep, hot food and drink a hot shower and a chance to dry out from the cold, wet weather.

The shelter is operated in cooperation with volunteers from the United Church, the City of Delta and Options Community Services.

Tuesday’s opening will be the fourth time the shelter had opened for an extended period so far this winter.
