At the elementary level, there are 70 more pupils in North Delta and 68 more in Ladner, although Tsawwassen is down by five.

Secondary schools in North Delta are up 66, while South Delta Secondary is up 44. Delta Secondary is down 22.

The overall student population currently stands at exactly 15,500.

Like most school districts in B.C., Delta had been suffering from declining enrollment for a number of years, which has had a big-time impact on annual operating budgets. Some years saw the enrollment drop by hundreds, forcing school trustees to make a lot of tough financial decisions, including closing Delta Manor and Boundary Beach elementary schools as well as cuts in areas such as educational assistants.

In more recent years that trend came to an end and enrollment stabilized. The district has seen a series of small increases and the current projection is for enrollment to remain fairly level for the next couple of years before moderate, steady increases occur.

Delta reached a student enrollment of 18,763 in 1980, which was the district’s all-time high.
