The recent openings of Starbucks, Tim Hortons and other food services continue to drive traffic to the Tsawwassen Commons Mall.

Novy Cheema, associate director of real estate for Gracorp Capital Advisors Inc., said they are pleased with how the mall continues to take shape.

“Given the current retail atmosphere we are pretty happy,” Cheema said. “We are seeing increased traffic coming into the mall. Our tenants are seeing that and are seeing increased sales. The eateries and the food services have helped drive that traffic.”

Other recent openings include Subway, which is located next to Booster Juice adjacent to Wendy’s and Metro Liquor, which is also adjacent to Wendy’s.

Sally Beauty has also opened up as well.

Cheema said they anticipate the Live Well Exercise Clinic to be open by mid-August, the SMK Smokery and Bar, which had originally planned to open as Wings but the owner has since changed the name and concept slightly, to be open at the end of August. SMK will be located next to Menchies.

The Kamome Japanese Restaurant should also be open in mid to late August, as well as Simply Pho and Two Stones Grill.

The dentist office and N&N Hair Salon should both be open by the end of September.

Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness, which was confirmed in March and will be located next to Home Sense, does not have a confirmed opening date yet, but Cheema said it is likely a November opening as construction inside the building is well underway.

Blaze Pizza, which is close to signing a leasing agreement, will be located near the A&W Restaurant.

Cheema said they are also working on another international fast food service restaurant that will be located beside Blaze Pizza.

Construction is also well underway at Kal Tire and should be open in the fall.

Cheema said Aquilini Development will also be setting up shop with their presentation centre to showcase a number of the housing developments that are being built adjacent to the mall.

Anchored by Walmart, Canadian Tire, Rona and others, the 100-store mall on Tsawwassen First Nation land was expected to open in October 2016 in conjunction with the adjacent 200-store Tsawwassen Mills, but a slower than anticipated retail market stalled construction.

Last June, activity on the site increased substantially, with construction at a steady pace ever since.
