Horse riders in Watershed Park shouldn’t leave other park goers to step in a mess.

That was the complaint raised recently by a park user who suggested the city consider a bylaw requiring horses in the park to wear manure bags.

“There are numerous manure droppings on the trails in the park. They are about 50 times more volume than dog excrement. Riders do not seem to care enough to get down and pick up after their horses,” a letter to the mayor read. The park goer also complained there’s no obvious action being taken.

Delta staff noted the parks regulation bylaw specifies that any person bringing an animal into the park or municipal land must remove any feces deposited by the animal immediately.  In the case of horses, while manure does not contain any significant hazardous components, nor is it harmful to humans, stepping into it is not pleasant, staff added.

“Staff will review onsite signage and continue bylaw enforcement.”
