For the fifth straight year KidSport Delta will be the beneficiary for Kirk Holifield memorial hockey game and after-party social.
Now marking its 11th year, the game will be held this Saturday, Feb. 23 at Planet Ice starting at 3:30 p.m. where friends and former teammates will square off and then head over to The Landing Pub in Ladner at 7:30 p.m. for the fundraiser.
The after-party social fundraiser at the The Landing will feature raffles, a 50/50 draw and a chance to share stories and memories of Kirk amongst family, friends and community members.
Holifield died tragically in 2007.
Kirk’s parents, Bert and Michelle, along with Michelle’s sister Sandra McLeod are organizing the fundraising social with the great support of the staff at The Landing Pub.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support KidSport Delta, the charitable arm of Sport BC, which provides grants to financially disadvantaged children to cover the costs of sport registration fees.
In the past three years more than $5,000 has been donated thanks to the fundraiser.
The Landing Pub was a place Kirk often frequented. A couple of years prior to his death, Kirk had a birthday party at The Landing Pub and requested that instead of gifts his friends donate to KidSport.
“Everyone knows Kirk, he was so well loved and respected, so the support we get for this just means the world to us,” said Michelle. “It’s so nice to have Kirk remembered.”
