Cedar Park Church is opening its doors for local post-secondary students who might be looking for a different study environment this fall.
With COVID-19 resulting in the majority of courses being offered online only, the Ladner church has created study areas within its facility on 44th Avenue and Arthur Drive.
Students will have free access to quiet rooms, tables, chairs and wifi.
There have been no services at the church since March.
“I read a CBC article when I was on holidays that there were three churches in Summerland that are doing this,” explained Cedar Park moderator Carol Johnson. “I thought it was a brilliant idea. We have all this space that is not being utilized and we have internet service that regularly can accommodate 250 to 300 people. We also have classrooms upstairs.”
The church will be collecting student information for contact tracing while COVID-19 health and safety protocols are featured throughout the facility.
The study space is available from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-to-Thursday.
It’s strongly recommended students reserve their space by calling 604-946-7410 or by email at admin@cedarparkchurch.org. Office hours are Monday-to-Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will receive an email confirming their study date and classroom location.
