Delta council recently gave the go-ahead for another commercial building in Ladner Village to get a new “heritage” look.

The vacant two-storey, 50-year-old building at 5052-48th Ave., just west of Elliott Street, most recently was home to three businesses – a used book store, a gift shop and a social services office.

The owner requested a development variance permit to renovate the exterior front and rear facade, renew the interior as well as mitigate settlement damage.

“The proposed renovation is intended to provide the 48th Avenue facade with a facelift, inspired by early 20th century small town commercial architecture,” a report to council notes.

The work will include, among other things, replacing the storefront glass, new lighting and a fabric awning and fixtures.

The report also states the plan adheres to the South Delta Business Sustainability Strategy that generally supports leveraging the heritage feel in the core of Ladner.
