Lawn bowlers could be on the move at Winskill.

Public consultation will start soon as the City of Delta has approved a concept plan to relocate the current lawn bowling green and clubhouse in Winskill Park.

The plan would relocate the green to the northeast corner of the park while also adding a parking lot and providing a replacement soccer field.

The project has been on Delta’s books since 2013 when the city, KinVillage Association and the Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club entered into a memorandum of understanding that provided for the continued viability of the lawn bowling facility as development plans for KinVillage were developed.

At that time, the lawn bowling green and clubhouse were on property owned by KinVillage, but the memorandum committed KinVillage to transfer the lawn bowling green to Delta and for the city to provide a clubhouse when KinVillage undergoes its redevelopment plans, which are now in the works as a rezoning application is expected to come to Delta soon.

If Delta council approves that rezoning application, it will allow KinVillage to begin construction and effectively remove the clubhouse from service.

Delta staff will now start meeting with stakeholders, including a number of sports organizations, the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club and the family that donated the play equipment located in the park, which would be relocated in the proposed plans.

Delta has allocated $2 million for the project.
