The fifth edition of the Climb for Kids fundraiser in support of BC Children’s Hospital will take place on Saturday, May 4 at Fred Gingell Park in Tsawwassen.

Lemire and a group of his coworkers from the Tsawwassen Save-On-Foods are putting on the fundraiser, which will see Lemire climb the park’s stairs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Delta Firefighters Charitable Society, which has been on hand every year, will be back again to put on a barbecue starting at 11 a.m.

“I’ll be on the stairs for the full four hours hoping family, friends and customers will also take part,” said Lemire. “This could one of the last years for myself, but the store will continue on. Save-On-Foods is a huge supporter of BC Children’s Hospital.”
Lemire also has special connections to the charity as additional motivation.

“My nephew Noah would not be alive without the support of BC Children’s Hospital,” he said. “Another customer also makes this the reason why I do this. I’m very passionate about this.”

Those from the store helping put the event together include manager Rajan Anand, Peggy Graham and Shirley Quakenbush.

“The people at the store and their support is just overwhelming,” Lemire said. “I’d also like to thank Gary Fast who has been training with me for the past 12 weeks. Also my family; there is no way I could do this without their support.”

On Saturday, April 27 from noon to 2 p.m. there will be a spin the wheel fundraiser at the store to support the event. Donations will be accepted on event day as well as in advance.

There are also two NHL jersey’s up for raffle, one from Brent Seabrook and the other from Brendan Gallagher, that are on display at the store. Customers can visit Save-On-Foods in Tsawwassen to purchase their tickets.

The Climb for Kids has raised more than $40,000 over the years.

“The community is unbelievable,” Lemire said. “I really want people to come out and join us.”
