No Delta rule against self-serve gas only

Don’t expect the City of Delta to prohibit gas stations from being self-serve only. A pair of residents recently wrote to council conveying concern a North Delta gas station was reportedly going to drop its full-serve option for motorists.

Don’t expect the City of Delta to prohibit gas stations from being self-serve only.

A pair of residents recently wrote to council conveying concern a North Delta gas station was reportedly going to drop its full-serve option for motorists. The letter writers wondered if the station can provide full-serve from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for older couples.

A staff response to council notes there are no municipal requirements or regulations in Delta to compel a service station to provide full service and that the decision is that of the business owner.

The memo also noted there are some useful online resources to help those with mobility issues including the B.C. Paraplegic Association maintaining a list of full service gas stations.

There’s also the FuelService app which helps drivers with disabilities or mobility issues find assistance refueling their cars. That service is also available by phone.

Coquitlam and Richmond are currently the only two B.C. municipalities that have bans on gas stations being self-serve.
