North Delta Crime Beat: Meat stolen from freezer after garage door left open overnight

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:

North Delta

March 22, 12:03 p.m., 11000-block of Monroe Drive: Complainant reported that her garage was entered overnight and that multiple packages of meat had been stolen from her deep freezer. Garage door may have been left open overnight.

March 24, 7:57 p.m., Nordel Way and 120th Street: Police observed a vehicle swerving within its lane. Police conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, noticed a strong odour of liquor on the driver’s breath and that the driver had an invalid B.C. driver’s licence. Driver blew into approved screening device, which registered a fail. The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension, 30-day vehicle impoundment and a violation ticket for no driver’s licence.

March 27, 3:33 p.m., 11800-block of 82A Avenue: Complainant contacted police about a vehicle with youth occupants driving recklessly, whom he then confronted. Police attended and located the parked vehicle matching the description provided. The driver admitted to accelerating too quickly for road conditions, subsequently making a loud sound. Police spoke to the driver about driving to weather conditions, who was receptive to the conversation. Police contacted complainant who appreciated the follow-up and admitted he may have overreacted.

March 28, 1:45 p.m. Nordel Way and 120th Street: Police were conducting proactive patrols when they observed a vehicle failing to maintain positioning in its lane, and traveling with inconsistent speed. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver admitted to alcohol consumption. Driver blew a fail. The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

March 28, 3:49 p.m., 72nd Avenue and 120th Street: Police were conducting proactive patrols when they located a small fire beside a cardboard dumpster. A security guard was on site also and called Delta Fire Department. No damage to any structure or the dumpsters. Extensive patrols conducted. Firefighters attended and put out the fire.

March 28, 9:45 a.m., 64th Avenue and Westview Drive: Police were called to a report of graffiti under the overpass by the City of Delta. Delta Works were made aware for cleanup.

March 28, 4:43 p.m., 80th Avenue and 110th Street: Police were called to a report of an unknown male passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Police located the unknown male awake in the vehicle and detected a strong odour of alcohol coming from the interior of the vehicle. The male was read the approved screening demand and after several failed attempts, refused to provide a sample. The driver was given a 90-day roadside suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment.
