Delta Pacers swim team capped another successful season with a third place finish at last weekend's B.C. Secondary Schools Championships in Richmond.

The Ladner school also made an impressive debut in the synchronized swimming portion of the competition, placing third. The Pacers qualified their entire team of 31 swimmers for the championships, with 20 of them advancing to the finals on Saturday. In total, six swimming medals were won, and two more in synchro events.

Leading the way was Gabriel Lee capturing gold in the 100 metre butterfly. The performance came on the heels of winning the zone meet in a Fraser Valley record time. He narrowly missed adding a provincial record too. The Grade 12 student added a silver medal in the 200m individual medley. Teammate Sidney Peake also was a runner-up in the 200 IM girls' final.

The pair then teamed up with Brandon Freiberger and Amy Kowbel to win the 200m mixed relay in a B.C. high school record time (1:56.57) that was nearly a full second better than the old mark. The same foursome added a silver in the 200m mixed free style relay.

Rounding out the medals were Anneka Hunchak, Jamie Hutton, Maya Sato-Klemm and Sophie Ferguson with a bronze in the 400m freestyle relay.

The Pacers would once again like to thank Parent Sponsor Willy Arundel for his tireless work as well as Sponsor Teacher Jan Rogers and an excellent team of Grade 12 coaches.
