Ladner’s Landing Facebook group member Lai Leobrera-Perez shared some neat photos of a Family Day visit to the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary.
The sanctuary on Westham Island consists of nearly 300 hectares (850 acres) of managed wetlands, natural marshes and low dikes in the Fraser River Estuary, the sanctuary's website notes.
"For the millions of birds seeking feeding and resting areas during their annual migrations along the Pacific Coast, the sanctuary is ideally located," it states.
The sanctuary is described as a "winter home of the snow geese and one of Canada's top birdwatching sites."
Nearly 300 species of birds have been recorded at the sanctuary.
