Report finds air quality is improving

Normally the air quality is only bad during the summer, but this weekend will not be good.

It may not seem like it now but air quality in the region has improved over the years.

That’s according to an air quality monitoring report from Metro Vancouver, which covered data collected in 2016 from all air quality monitoring stations including ones located in Tsawwassen and North Delta.

The report found there were no exceedances of regional or national ambient air quality objectives at the Delta monitoring stations. The report also notes improvements have been made regionally over the last two decades for most pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide and fine particulate matter. Both short-term peak and average concentrations have declined since the mid-90s.

In addition to the 23 station in Metro Vancouver, the regional district also operates six stations in the Fraser Valley Regional District in partnership with the FVRD.

Also in addition to the monitoring network stations, Metro Vancouver deploys portable air quality stations and instruments to conduct specialized monitoring studies at certain “hot spots” in the region.
