South Delta Crime Beat: Boss didn’t ask employee to send iTunes gift cards

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

Sept. 10, 6 a.m., 1700-block of Beach Grove Road: Complainant reported unknown suspect entered unlocked vehicle and stole her purse containing ID, credit cards and $40 cash.

Sept. 11, 5:30 a.m., 6700-block of Corbould Road: Report of two unknown suspects entering property and stealing $800 of copper wire.

Sept. 11, 6:15 p.m., 5400-block of 18th Avenue: Complainant reported receiving an email from unknown person posing as her boss requesting $400 in iTunes gift cards. Cards were purchased and then she contacted her boss who advised he did not send her an email. Apple Products was contacted to cancel the gift cards.

Sept. 13, 4:31 p.m., corner of 56th Street and 6th Avenue: Police contacted by a witness who reported having seen a vehicle leave the scene after striking a man in the crosswalk. The man suffered a variety of injuries. A witness recorded the licence plate, so police attended the residence of the registered owner, who stated they were unaware they had struck a pedestrian. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. A review of the driver’s licence has been requested.

Sept. 14, 12:22 p.m., 1600-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported the theft of a 2012 Jeep Patriot, worth approximately $12,000. Theft is believed to have occurred overnight. The doors to the vehicle are reported to have been locked. Matter under investigation.

Sept. 14, 10:22 p.m., 5500-block of 16th Avenue: Complainants contacted police about a car alarm going off and provided a licence plate of a vehicle parked in the lot. Police determined the registered owner lives in Tsawwassen and attended his residence. Owner advised police the vehicle is being worked on by a nearby automotive shop, and one of the issues needing to be fixed was the alarm. Owner stated he would contact the automotive shop the next morning to have the issue resolved.

Sept. 14, 11:02 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Staff at a local business reported six males fighting at a bus stop. Police attended and the parties dispersed. Police located three males believed to have been involved in an altercation over stolen beer. A witness advised the fight seemed to be consensual. Emergency Health Services attended.

Ladner

Sept. 13th, 12:10 p.m., Highway 17 and Highway 91: Complainant observed his vehicle, which had been stolen earlier in the week, being driven by two males. Police were called and suspects dumped vehicle in Tilbury. They fled on foot but were located and transported to cells on multiple outstanding warrants.

Sept. 14, 7 p.m., 4800-block of Delta Street: Report of overnight break and enter at the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. Bolts were removed from the fenced gate causing $100 damage. Nothing was stolen and fence to be secured by staff.

Sept. 15, 6:18 p.m., 4900-block of 45th Avenue: Complainant advised she saw an unknown male steal a BMX bike from her yard. Police attended the residence and searched the area for a male fitting the description. Unfortunately no suspect was located.
