South Delta Crime Beat: Erratic driver was just grabbing take-out dinner

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Ladner

Oct. 7, 49th Avenue: The complainant reported that various items had been stolen from their carport sometime overnight. Items stolen include two gas cans filled with fuel, helmets and a football bag filled with gear. The approximate value of stolen items totalled $2,000.

Oct. 9, 4100-block of 88th Street: Complainant reported the theft of a $700 heavy duty battery from a Hitachi EX300LC excavator. The equipment was parked in an open lot on rural farm property. The theft occurred overnight, sometime between 6 p.m. on Oct. 8 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 9.

Oct. 12, 5700-block Ladner Trunk Road: Police were contacted about an erratic driver who was possibly impaired. Police located the vehicle and identified the driver, who showed no sign of alcohol or drug impairment. The driver stated he made a last minute decision to grab dinner from a take-out restaurant before heading to work. Police warned the driver about how his poor driving could impact others, and sent him on his way.

Oct. 13, 4700-block of 36th Avenue: Complainant reported that an unknown suspect attempted to break in through the front door of their family residence. The suspect apparently observed a light turn on inside the home and fled into an awaiting vehicle. The complainant also stated the home had an attempted break and enter last week, however they never reported it. Police attended, checked the perimeter and found pry damage to a window. Further investigative steps are underway.

Oct. 13, 7100-block of River Road: A driver was stopped at a police roadblock after police formed the suspicion the driver was impaired. Driver stated he had consumed a beer. He blew into an approved screening device, resulting in a warn result. The driver was then prohibited from driving for three days and left the area in a taxi.

Tsawwassen

Oct. 7, 1500-block of Tsawwassen Drive: Complainant reported the driver and passenger doors on their vehicle were punched while parked at a park and ride, which caused damage of approximately $1,000. The vehicle’s stereo was stolen.

Oct. 7, 4900-block of 2nd Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime overnight their vehicle was rummaged through while parked, unlocked, in their driveway. Complainant recovered some of the items stolen from their vehicle, as they were found scattered a couple doors down from the residence.

Oct. 9, 4900-block of 2A Avenue: Complainant reported a theft from their fishing boat parked in the driveway of their residence. Suspect stole a rod holder and downrigger valued at $342. Complainant also noticed the suspect had broken one of the clamps that attach the boat to the motor.

Oct. 10, 4600-block of Blue Heron Drive: Complainant reported that two uninsured vehicles on their property had been broken into and rummaged through. Registration documents were the only items noted as stolen.
