The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

Nov. 1, 1:19 p.m., 5000-block of 12th Avenue: City of Delta workers reported graffiti occurred sometime during the week in the men’s washroom at Brandrith Park. The graffiti caused an estimate of $300 in damage. Nothing was left on scene and the graffiti is scheduled to be painted over.

Nov. 4, 1:20 p.m., 1600-block of 53A Street: Complainant contacted police after a dispute with a contractor, who is allegedly doing work at their property without consent. Complainant also apparently owes money to contractor, but states work was not agreed upon. Contractor agreed not to attend complainant’s residence and to pursue the matter of the outstanding balance through civil court. No criminal offence.

Nov. 5, 11:45 p.m., 5000-block of Cedar Springs Drive: Police were called to a report of mischief caused to a cable box. The fiber optic cable was cut causing TV, phone and internet to go down. The file is under investigation.

Nov. 6, 8:57 a.m., 2300-block of 56th Street: Police were called to a reports of a driver swerving badly. Upon police arrival, police observed the vehicle swerving into the bicycle lane. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver appeared to have a slurred speech, slow movements, and an odour of liquor emanating from his breath. Two breath samples were taken in which the driver failed both of them. An immediate roadside prohibition was served to the driver and his vehicle was towed away for 30 days.

Nov. 10, 8:11 p.m., 5300-block of Saratoga Drive: Police received noise complaints about a house party in the area. Police spoke with resident who advised he was having a house party, but it had gotten out of hand. Approximately 50 youth at the residence were ordered to leave the property.

Nov. 10, 8:22 and 9:49 p.m., 1600-block of 56th Street: Police contacted regarding a male who was yelling and trying to scale a building. Police located a male who was intoxicated, and looking unsuccessfully for his Tinder date. Police advised male that he needed to leave, and he did so in taxi. However, the same male later returned and was seen scaling a balcony. Police located him again, causing a disturbance, and arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place, to be held until sober. No damage to property.

Ladner
Nov. 3, 8:30 p.m., 4600 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Police were called to a report of a wallet that had been stolen from the Ladner Leisure Centre. The victim reported to police he had been showering while he left his locker open with his jacket hanging inside. The victim came back to his locker to see that his wallet, including cash and ID, was gone from his jacket. 

Nov. 3, 2 p.m., 6900-block of 72nd Street: Police were called to a report of a trailer and power washer that had been stolen from a loading bay. Along with the power washer, in the trailer was a tool box, extra hose, an extra wash gun, and a 40L container of fuel. The file is still under investigation.

Nov. 8, 4:29 p.m., 4700-block of 48th Avenue: Police were conducting patrols when they noticed a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road with significant damage on the driver’s side while the vehicle was still running. Police recognized the vehicle and driver to be someone they had previously dealt with in regards to being impaired while driving. Police engaged emergency lights, but the driver did not react to the lights. Police walked up to the vehicle and had to knock on the window to get the driver’s attention. The officer confirmed the driver was someone whom he had dealt with in the past, and who he knew to be prohibited from driving. The driver was advised he was under arrest, at which time he became combative with police. Police were able to continue with the arrest for prohibited driving, although the driver also refused to comply with a breath demand. Charges for driving while prohibited and refusal to comply with demand are being forwarded to Crown for consideration.

Nov. 9, 8:04 a.m., 4700-block of 57th Street: Police were called to a report of a vehicle’s windshield being smashed. Upon police arrival it was noted that a broken guitar was lying near the vehicle. It was believed the guitar was used to break the vehicle’s windshield. Another vehicle down the street also had similar damage.
