South Delta Crime Beat: Music blares in middle of night as driver enjoys some ‘alone time’

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

Aug. 11, 3:39 a.m., 1600-block of Farrell Crescent: Police attended a residence following a noise complaint from neighbour who advised there was a loud house party with guests in the backyard. Upon arrival, police only observed three people in the backyard with minimal noise. Police were advised that the homeowner was sleeping and that the party was now over.

Aug. 12, 4:41 p.m., 4900-block of Canoe Pass Way: Complainant reported that a wallet was left behind at a restaurant. Police attended and seized the wallet. Police attended the address listed on the rightful owner’s driver’s licence to return it. Money and IDs were accounted for.

Aug. 12, 9:28 p.m., 5500-block of 4th Avenue: Complainant called police after she discovered her bikes had been stolen. Complainant advised that her blue, 21-speed “Specialized” bicycle, which had a baby seat (total value $300), was stolen along with her child’s red and black, 16-inch bicycle that said "Darth Vader" on the frame (value $50). Complainant did mention she hadleft her main garage door open. Nothing else in the garage was disturbed and no entry was made to main residence

Aug. 14, 9:54 a.m., 1100-block of Jackson Way: Police were dispatched to residence following a report of attempted theft of auto. Complainant stated he parked vehicle in the driveway with all doors/windows locked, but discovered the driver side door was tampered with along with a tampered ignition and the centre console open. Complainant advised nothing stolen. Upon police observation, the ignition appeared punched and minor damage to inside of driver side lock.

Aug. 15, 9:09 p.m., Ferry Causeway: Police were dispatched to an unwanted persons report advising that two foot passengers were apparently intoxicated and would likely be refused entrance to the ferry. Police attended and kept the peace as the males were asked to depart, which they did without issue, and had their tickets refunded. Police cautioned the males about public intoxication, but did not issue a violation ticket or make arrest.

Aug. 16, 9:09 a.m., 1000-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported littering had occurred. Complainant advised that a female discarded a lit cigarette onto the concrete next to some bushes. Police contacted the female who advised she discarded the cigarette in the aforementioned fashion as she was in a rush to attend a doctor’s appointment. The female advised that she retrieved the previously discarded cigarette, after her appointment, and disposed of it appropriately.

Aug. 16, 9:38 p.m., 400-block of Milsom Wynd: Complainant reported to police that eight to 10 teens had been smashing glass, going into yards and using firecrackers. Police located a group being loud, playing music and in possession of liquor outside English Bluff Elementary. All youths under the age of 19 years old. Liquor seized and verbal warnings given. All parties directed to clean up their mess and quietly be on their way.

Ladner

Aug. 11, 4:45 p.m., 5100-block of 47th Avenue: Complainant reported seeing a white pickup truck with two children in the back not wearing seatbelts. Police located the vehicle parked unoccupied. Police then located the female driver, who advised her child took off her seatbelt while she was driving at which point the driver stated she pulled over at the park when it was safe. Police spoke at length regarding the importance of seatbelts. The driver was apologetic and stated she pulled over as soon as it was safe and had her child put the belt back on.

Aug. 12, 10:05 a.m., 6500-block of 62B Street: Complainant phoned police advising that a community mailbox had been broken into. Police found the mailbox with what appeared to be a punched lock. Complainant unable to confirm if any mail was stolen, but stated a parcel was still in the mailbox when it was found. Complainant has already contacted Canada Post which was in the process of re-keying the mailboxes.

Aug. 12, 7200-block of Churchill Street: Complainant reported her vehicle was rummaged through while she walked through the North 40 dog park. Complainant returned to find her passenger door unlocked and vehicle rummaged through, wallet missing. Complainant found out soon after that her MasterCard had been used to purchase $50 worth of gas.

 

Aug. 12, 9:13 p.m., 4900-block of Fenton Drive: Complainant reported a noisy party in the neighbourhood. Complainant advised the party appeared to have approximately 30 attendees with people partying on the back deck. Police attended where loud voices could be heard from the street. An 18-year-old resident answered the door and admitted to having party while parents out of town. Police advised the party be shut down.

 

Aug. 16, 4:05 a.m., 5400-block of 47A Avenue: Police received a complaint of a vehicle parked in the neighbourhood playing loud music. Police found the vehicle and spoke with the driver who suggested that he was "having alone time" listening to music. Police advised the driver that it was not appropriate to play loud music on a residential street at 4:05 a.m. The driver shut off the music and left the area.
