North Delta’s Delview Park will soon be getting new pathways, pathway lighting and other amenities.

On Monday night, Delta council endorsed a staff report giving the go ahead for the project.

According to a staff report, the 2020 draft financial plan includes funding of $125,000 for a pathway and parking lot renewal program for the City of Delta park system. The objective of the program and funding is to improve safety and functionality within parks.

“In the fall and winter months the hours of daylight for general park users in the early mornings and evenings is minimal,” notes the staff report. “During this time of year people will often utilize a park during these periods as a shortcut to other locations, for exercise or to walk their dog. Creating the opportunity to undertake these activities in a safe, illuminated space is important.”

The plan for the park includes a number of amenities, in addition to the pathways. These amenities provide a new community shelter, washroom, re-located and enlarged dog off-leash containment area and playground.

The new walking loops and associated pathway lights will be located around the area of the park that will also contain the shelter and washroom as well as the new picnic area. Pathway lighting will also be added where necessary to existing pathways from the south and east entrances to the park.

“Comprehensive community consultation was undertaken to develop the concept plan for Delview Park,” said parks director Ken Kuntz. “The community expressed a clear desire for more pathways and pathway lighting.”
