On Monday council will consider a shared use agreement with the school district for the renovated track at South Delta Secondary.

The Delta school district last spring removed the rubber track at the school, which had originally been installed for the B.C. Summer Games in 1987 but in recent years clearly looked in disrepair.

In the summer city council agreed to provide 50 per cent funding for the resurfacing project to a maximum of $175,000. A report to council notes the district is leading the resurfacing project work and has secured an independent consultant to specify and oversee the installation. The district has also sought pricing through an open bid competition, but had not proceeded because of inclement weather in the fall. The project will be re-tendered this spring with installation planned for the summer of 2019.

The estimated cost of the project is $350,000.

The shared use agreement includes the city and school district meeting at least once a year to review the requested use of the track for the upcoming year.

The agreement would expire at the end of 2033.
