Transit driver reports body at side of Highway 99

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

Nov. 6, 4:33 p.m., 2000-block of 52nd Street: A driver called Delta police to advise that a vehicle was seen swerving, tailgating other vehicles and speeding in the area. Officers conducted area patrols, however, were unable to locate the vehicle. Officers later located the driver. He stated he was his way to work and not driving erratically. Officers advised the driver of the importance of road safety, and to be careful when behind the wheel.

Nov. 6, 8:34 p.m., 5100-block of 1A Avenue: Complainant reported a loud band playing in the neighbourhood. Police attended and spoke to the homeowner who advised that his son's rock band was playing in their enclosed backyard music studio. The homeowner stated he would tell them to either turn down or stop playing the music. Homeowner was warned of a possible bylaw ticket if the noise continued. The complainant was advised accordingly and stated the music had stopped.

Nov. 7, 5:30 p.m., Highway 99/Highway 17A: A transit driver called to report a possible body lying on the side of Highway 99 northbound at the Highway 17A off-ramp. Delta officers attended and found a broken Santa Claus Christmas decoration; no other bodies found. Decoration taken to headquarters for disposal.

Nov. 10, 11:28 a.m., 5400-block of 10th Avenue: Complainant reported that his mother was the victim of a possible fraud. She had been contacted by a man posing as an employee of E-Tech Live who requested she supply them with iTunes gift cards and provide access to her computer. Fortunately no access gained to her computer. Complainant concerned as his mother has previously given out credit card information. Complainant advised to ensure that his mother does not give out any financial information in the future.

Ladner

Nov. 4, 3 p.m., 5000-block of 54th Street: Police were dispatched to investigate a parking complaint in the area. Police spoke with the complainant who explained that a Kenworth tractor had been parked at the location for approximately two days. Complainant believes the tractor is obstructing the view of drivers coming around the bend on Linden Drive. Police contacted the registered owner who advised that he will move the tractor right away. Tractor was violating Delta’s bylaw.

Nov. 6, 5300-block of Admiral Way: Complainant called to report a noise complaint in the neighbourhood. The complainant advised that a male has a car radio cranked and loud bass making lots of noise and that had been ongoing for 15 minutes. No plate obtained. Police attended the area with negative results.

Nov. 7, 11:33 p.m., 5600-block of Grove Avenue: Complainant called police advising that neighbours had been lighting fireworks for the past 10 minutes. Officers attended and spoke to the neighbour, who stated they were setting off fireworks to celebrate Diwali. All fireworks ceased for the remainder of the night.

Nov. 10, 10:53 a.m., 7200-block of Highway 17: Police clocked a Jeep at 133 km/h. Investigation revealed driver also using an electronic device while driving. The driver was unable to produce driver’s licence or insurance documents. Further investigation revealed the driver was using the plate from their other vehicle as the vehicle’s insurance expired in May. Plates were seized and the driver issued violation tickets for excessive speeding and no insurance. The Jeep was towed and impounded.

Nov. 10, 2:10 p.m., Chisholm Street and Georgia Street: Complainant reported an ongoing problem of people loitering in the park. According to the complainant there has been a group that is at the park daily urinating, swearing, and smoking. Group dispersed prior to police attendance.
