Transit workers have voted 99 per cent in favour of strike action following a vote Thursday.
Unifor locals 2200 and 111, representing thousands of bus drivers, maintenance workers and SeaBus operators, have been negotiating with the Coast Mountain Bus Company, a subsidiary of TransLink, for several months.
The Optimist was told talks broke down last Thursday but are scheduled to resume next Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, and just because a strike vote delivered an overwhelming mandate it doesn’t mean a strike notice will be delivered right away.
The earliest notice of job action would happen would be in a week following those sessions. The union, which has been without a contract since the end of March, now has a 90-day strike mandate. If a strike was to take place, the employer would be issued a 72-hour strike notice.
