The Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club will be on the move -- eventually.

Delta council has approved a recommendation from the parks and recreation department to enter discussions with the KinVillage Association to allow the club to continue to use the clubhouse space in the building known as North Court under a rental contract beyond Dec. 31 this year, but in the long-term the clubhouse could end up at the Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre.

Delta’s parks, recreation and culture commission will consider design options that could see a permanent location for the clubhouse at the recreation centre along with expanded parking.

A civic report notes KinVillage was not willing to enter into a long-term lease with the club and notified the club the North Court building might be redeveloped. KinVillage was concerned that having the clubhouse as part of the plans for a redeveloped long-term facility might affect its ability to secure funding from the province for the redevelopment project, the report notes.

While the site will eventually be redeveloped, the North Court is not part of the first phase. Applications for redevelopment of KinVillage are expected to be submitted later this year.

Meanwhile, the report also acknowledges parking for club members will be impacted and solutions need to be explored.
