Local mom Mellodee Rayne Minni shared the news in a post to the Tsawwassen LOOP Facebook group that her 16-year-old son Jace and two of his friends, who were having a snack at the Tsawwassen McDonald’s after playing basketball, were given $100 each by a senior after she approached the teens and struck up a conversation with them.

“She said they seemed like fine young men in the community and she proceeded to retrieve three $100 bills from her wallet,” the post read, adding each of the friends were given $100.

“Needless to say my son was shocked but wanted to thank her profusely and went over to her table to find out her name was Shirley and to tell her how thankful they all were,” Minni wrote in her post.

“It was such a lovely gesture of Christmas goodwill that Shirley did, it touched Jace immensely and he was still saying after a few days that he couldn’t believe how generous Shirley was,” she told the Optimist in an email. “He just couldn’t believe someone could be so giving!”

She said the experience will “most certainly set them off into world to also pay it forward.”
