Fraser Health and the City of Delta have provided an update on the COVID-19 outbreak at Delta Hospital.

In an advisory posted on Delta’s website Thursday, patients will not be admitted to the second floor medical unit for the time being in order to further protect them from the risk of transmission of COVID-19 at the hospital.

The first floor medical unit has re-opened for admissions. If a patient needs admission to hospital for further care, they may be transported to an appropriate hospital within the Fraser Health network.

The Emergency Department remains open for urgent and emergent care and all scheduled surgeries at Delta Hospital will continue.

The Diagnostic Centre at Delta Hospital, including medical imaging and laboratory services, is operating as normal and is not impacted by this change at this time.

All outpatient services are also continuing as normal.

Fraser Health told the Optimist that in total there have been 26 staff and 19 patient cases associated with the outbreak as well as seven deaths.

The case total is up by three staff cases from last week.

Enhanced infection prevention and control measures were put in place by Fraser Health at the onset of the outbreak and continue to be in place. All appropriate staff, medical staff and patients are being tested, and contact tracing is being carried out to prevent further transmission. The essential visitors’ policy is being strictly enforced at this time.
