Get ready for traffic delays along 56th Street in Tsawwassen.
The city’s engineering department is planning to upgrade approximately 1,600 metres of sanitary sewer main along the roadway between 8A and 16th avenues, and approximately 300 metres of sanitary sewer main located south of 11th Avenue between 54A and 56th Street.
A staff report notes the existing sewer main is nearing capacity and approaching the end of its service life.
The sewer main will require replacement prior to a planned repaving on 56th Street, which is anticipated to be completed within the next five years.
As part of the capital project, the sewer main will also be upsized for additional capacity.
The construction of the main is anticipated to be completed in two phases with the first commencing in 2021.
Council recently approved a contract for design and construction management services.
Early design allows for better construction cost estimates, according to staff.
