Wind warning issued for Delta

The City of Delta is urging residents to be cautious after a wind warning was issued for Delta and the region.

Extremely high winds, with gusts up to 90km/h are forecast for Delta and the region.

The storm is expected to ease this evening, but is likely to pick up again on Saturday.

“Due to the inclement weather, please take caution while commuting or outside,” said the City of Delta in a news release. “The public is urged to stay away from dike and shoreline areas and avoid wooded areas where possible. Take time to ensure that all objects exposed to wind around your homes or businesses are tightly secured or moved to enclosed areas.”

Residents that may encounter a downed power line, are asked to stay back at least 10 metres and call 911 to report the location.

The City of Delta is also reminding residents to report issues related to city services by calling 604-946-4141 or reporting it via the TalkDelta app at www.delta.ca/talkdelta. For all emergencies, call 911.

Delta staff is continuously monitoring the situation and crews are ready to respond where needed.
