As Mayor Lois Jackson and her DIVA council team attempt to engage in an election-engineered squabble bemoaning "expense of taxpayer money," let's not be distracted by the mayor and her alleged "fiscally responsible" election theme.

How about these questionable expenses of taxpayer money by the mayor and her DIVA council team:

• Increase of mayor's salary from $88,451 in 2008 to $113,832 in 2014 and increase of council salaries from $36,295 in 2008 to $48,734 in 2014.

• New website: $161,000

• Million-dollar Harris Barn, including $575,000 Arthur Drive house and additional costs for a lawsuit by neighbours.

• The decaying and empty Seven Seas fish plant building.

• The languishing Ladner waterfront revitalization plan.

• The much-delayed Heritage Strategy

• Approximately $180,000 for Ladner Leisure Centre locker replacements.

Maybe it's time to use those new lockers to protect more taxpayer money from questionable council expenses?
