I get boundless pleasure each June reading the letter from Mayor Lois Jackson that is enclosed with my annual municipal tax bill.

This year I learned the municipal tax increase of 2.9 per cent (versus the Vancouver metro area inflation rate of 1.9 per cent) was due to a 0.9 per cent increase for general services, and a special two per cent increase for a Neighbourhood Roads and Improvement Plan.

Of course, maintaining and improving streets and sidewalks could not be considered a typical expense for a municipality; thus the special tax category is required.

A colour-coded summary of the plan was also enclosed with the tax bill. Interestingly, this summary contained no cost information.

I did learn there are 15 projects scheduled for 2012, none of which are in Tsawwassen; 12 projects for 2013, four of which are in Tsawwassen; and 11 projects for 2014, none of which are in Tsawwassen. In total, four of the 38 projects are in Tsawwassen.

That's your reward for not voting for Jackson last November.
