Most of the news we hear or read these days is so negative and frightening it makes me want to stop watching or reading the news entirely. However, here's a great news story that deserves reporting.

On a recent Monday morning, as my father was tending his garden, he suddenly felt weak and collapsed to the ground. He remained conscious, but was unable to stand or help himself.

Fortunately, three teens just happened to be walking nearby, and my dad still had the strength to speak out, "Would you help me, please?"

Immediately, these three ran over to help. They quickly assessed the situation: one knocked on the door to find my mom inside and have her call 911; the other two stayed with my dad and helped him come inside the house.

They waited with my parents, continuing to console my frantic mom, and assist my dad, until the firefighters and ambulance paramedics arrived.

Sensing a possible heart attack, the paramedics took both my mom and dad to the emergency at Delta Hospital.

The three youth, along with the firefighters, ensured all was OK around the home and garden, then left.

Jake Abram, Geoff Anderson and Geoffrey Konkin are the three teens that saved my dad's life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Without your quick response and willingness to help, I hate to think what might have happened.

You are true heroes, and deserve recognition as such. You definitely saved my dad's life.

Postscript: Dad is now home from the hospital, resting and recuperating, very thankful for the quick thinking and support from Jake, Geoff and Geoffrey. And mom is over the moon knowing she has three guardian angels.

My parents are in their mid 80s, each with health issues and mobility concerns, but wanting to enjoy life, independently, in their own home.

As the daughter, who lives over an hour's drive away, it is very heartening to know they have such terrific neighbours.
