Growing up in Delta has been a pleasurable experience.

From the comfortable feeling of walking down the cozy streets of the village to watching a beautiful sunset fade over a fresh cut hay field as the farmers get ready to tuck the tractors to bed for the night, I couldn't imagine growing up in a nicer place. Even the smell of the manure spread on the fields just reminds me more of how I appreciate the cute farm community I live in.

However, I was given another reason for appreciating my community: the citizens that go out of the way to do things for others.

On a Saturday night I had my purse stolen from a house party. Though I'm usually quite carefree at local gatherings, this party was bigger than I expected and it was my fault for not keeping my purse locked up.

After a large number of kind folks at the party helped me look, I ended up going home empty handed. In it there was my bank card, driver's licence, various other cards of ID, gift cards and an autographed baseball card I carried with great value. Luckily no large sums of cash were in it but I was still disheartened.

I must say it made my day when I got a phone call the next day from a very nice lady who had found some ID of mine as well as my care card on a street not too far from the house the purse was taken from.

She tucked the belongings nicely in an envelope for me to pick up and even went so far as to draw a map of the route she went walking in case I wanted to look further for other things. After following her map, my mom and I found my bank card and a few gift cards sprawled over the street.

Later that day, a man phoned my house to report he'd found more of my things. I was more than pleased to hear this and pick them up. I was even more touched to hear that he had found my telephone number by calling the business cards he'd found in my wallet to see if the people knew me (luckily they did).

In the end, it was a long day of phone calls and treasure hunting, but thanks to the good-hearted folk of our town, and the endless efforts of my mom, I got almost everything back I had lost, even my prized baseball card.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me. It truly made my day.
