Letters: Bin your dog poop – and your garbage

I agree with Mr. Smyth about picking up after your pooch (Optimist, letters, Feb. 17), but what about the garbage around our streets?

No one seems to be concerned about the degrading masks, plastic bits and pieces and dangerous metal wires lurking on our streets.

Walking our four-month-old puppy through Leslie Park yesterday, we met a lovely lady and her black lab. She had on a pair of surgical gloves and handfuls of garbage. She said she has been picking up garbage in her neighbourhood since 1972.

We continued on and sure enough our pup had something in his mouth, which puppies will do. It was a three-inch piece of wire attached to a plastic spring type of contraption.  Thankfully we lured it away from him with a treat.
