Letters: Characterization is very sad

I am saddened by the letter from Mr. Filippov (Optimist, letters, Feb. 18) which characterizes our government as “bloodthirsty” and seeking to “impose its power” on supporters of the Ladner hospice.

I am saddened by the letter from Mr. Filippov (Optimist, letters, Feb. 18) which characterizes our government as “bloodthirsty” and seeking to “impose its power” on supporters of the Ladner hospice.

Mr. Filippov implies that those who respect Canada’s laws must want to convert the hospice into “a place of killing not caring.”

If Canadian taxes funded the construction, and funds ongoing operation of the hospice, it is proper that those in its care should have access to all services and end of life options available under Canadian law. Since June 2016, this includes physician assisted suicide (or medical assistance in dying).

If Mr. Filippov personally owns and operates the hospice, I apologize for my letter, but hope that I will finish my time someplace else.
