Letters: Congratulations to all our Delta athletes

Congratulations to all Delta athletes who are participating in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Mark Pearson
Tsawwassen field hockey standout Mark Pearson is working hard these days to re-join his senior men's national teammates and play in the Tokyo Olympics after rupturing his achilles tendon last summer at the Pan Am Games.

Editor:

It was lovely to recognize among our Delta competitors, Mark Pearson, the first recipient of our Spirit of B.C. awards offered to outstanding athletes training towards Olympic competition with Mark being the first in 2010 when Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics.

This recognition became an annual tradition for our Kiwanis Club of South Delta to present outstanding athletes who had been selected by Carlene Lewall (Chair of the Spirit of B.C. committee in Delta) along with coaches and nominators of the athletes making recommendations to the committee chair of Kiwanis.

We had seen Mark compete in the Summer Olympics prior to this year's event in Tokyo, but it was an additional pleasure to see his progress covered in the Delta Optimist.

We follow our rewarded recipients of our awards in the Summer and Winter Olympics and it is a pleasure to recognize Mark Pearson (field hockey recipient 2010) and congratulate him on his ongoing progress. In addition, congratulations to all Delta athletes who are participating in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
