Letters: Cooped up people should be able to get some fresh air at massive Boundary Bay park

Editor: Whose daft idea was it to lock off Boundary Bay Regional Park? Certainly not someone who lives in a 1,000-square-foot condo with two active and frustrated children or a 550-square-foot one-bedroom apartment with two windows.

Whose daft idea was it to lock off Boundary Bay Regional Park asks letter writer Geoff Eldred.

Whose daft idea was it to lock off Boundary Bay Regional Park? Certainly not someone who lives in a 1,000-square-foot condo with two active and frustrated children or a 550-square-foot one-bedroom apartment with two windows.

What short-sighted foolishness to coop people up for weeks on end and expect them to cope without serious consequences down the road.

Yes, stop people congregating and using skate parks, playground equipment, etc., but Boundary Bay Regional Park is massive and could easily accommodate many people just getting some fresh air and allowing their children to let off steam in this current depressing situation.

It would only take several signs reminding people to maintain distance, and perhaps a few tickets being handed out, but for the greater physical and mental health of many stuck in otherwise-confining accommodations, the benefit would outweigh the likely consequences - depression, spousal and/or alcohol abuse, etc.
I say open up the parking lot.
