Letters: Delta will work even harder to make things right

We know we will make mistakes as we continue adapting to the ever-changing world, but whenever we slip-up, we will work even harder to make things right

With disappointment, I read the letter to the editor published online Dec. 10 entitled 'City hall needs to get its act together.'

I immediately looked into the issue and found that while we made a mistake in our initial service to Mr. Guffler, upon his return from the landfill we owned the mistake, apologized for it, and provided a full refund. We are sorry for Mr. Guffler’s experience on the day and thank him for his understanding that we are all human and sometimes make mistakes.

This is never more true than during these challenging times when staff are being asked to pivot and adapt on a daily basis, including taking on customer service roles and responsibilities beyond their normal duties due to reduced staffing levels at City Hall.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank the entire community for your understanding during these unprecedented and incredibly challenging times. Under the leadership of Mayor and Council, as staff we have worked hard to provide our usual first-class service to everyone in Delta. Obviously we have been unable to offer full recreation services, but we have adapted to the situation and are doing the best we can under the circumstances. In spite of the challenges, I am incredibly proud of the effort, adaptability, and dedication to service shown by City staff throughout the pandemic.

During this holiday season, we are giving thanks for the wonderful community we have the pleasure of serving and ask for your continued patience and understanding as we work to safely provide the services you deserve. We know we will make mistakes as we continue adapting to the ever-changing world, but whenever we slip-up, we will work even harder to make things right.
