Letters: Glad to see council is looking at this ban

The municipal council of the District of Oak Bay on Vancouver Island earlier this year unanimously voted to phase out gas-powered lawn equipment.

Editor:

I was very pleased to see that the City of Delta is researching a ban on gas-powered lawn implements (City looking at banning gas-powered leaf blowers, Optimist, Nov. 3, 2022.)

Only this morning I was at a local business where someone was blowing leaves with a noisy, smoke-spewing leaf blower. An employee told me that gas-powered tools agitate local dogs and are unbelievably irritating to staff.

Many of my neighbours have landscaping companies to maintain their properties. Without exception, these companies use powerful gas-powered tools, creating an almost daily disturbance in the spring, summer and fall. In particular, the most obnoxious items are gas-powered leaf blowers and edge trimmers.

There are electric (including battery-operated) alternatives readily available.

Please encourage council in their efforts to make Delta a more peaceful place to live.
