I would like to thank Mr. Ted Olak for his letter (Optimist, June 9).
During the last year I was embarrassed and disgusted by the displays of our flag for selfish purposes. We have never been a big flag waving people. We see it on Canada Day, Remembrance Day and at the occasional international sporting event. I still eye it with misgiving today. Mr. Olak talks of starting a movement. I have an idea.
Make a small Canadian flag. Make it yourself with your own hands. Draw it on a little piece of paper just big enough for someone to see it if they get up close. Mine measures 1x2 inches. It is not perfect. Just like our country. But we’re trying to be better. Better in how we treat each other, especially if we think we are different.
On Canada Day I will pin on my shirt. Just over my heart.
