Letters: How will a hotel improve our economy?

What attracts tourists are not hotels or other established tourist traps, rather quirky local attractions

I am puzzled, how is a hotel going to improve Ladner’s economic situation?

If one is talking about a tourist attraction, one that would attract thousands of people, I would say a small car ferry, from Ladner to Steveston, would be a winner.

Not only would a small ferry connect Ladner to Steveston, providing access by pedestrians, a ferry would provide the cyclist with a direct route without the need to go through the tunnel.

A small auto ferry would have the capacity to carry a large amount of foot traffic, especially in the summer months.

Oh, there will be naysayers, but in Europe there are scores of small auto ferries crossing major rivers, providing access for local traffic, and knowledgeable tourists and if such a service works there, why not here.

What attracts tourists are not hotels or other established tourist traps, rather quirky local attractions, such as a ferry service crossing a river, giving the feeling of a ‘fun’ small cruise at a little cost to the wallet or purse.
