Letters: I’ll believe it when I see it

I will believe Delta's commitment to the environment when I see it, Mr. Mayor

RE: LBA planting honours Dr. Bonnie Henry, pollinators, and local business (Optimist, June 24)

Out planting a West Coast Seeds pollinator blend the mayor states that being out in the community is one of his favorite things and that, “Delta is interested in doing everything possible in [addressing] climate change and bee pollination.”

I have been advocating for more selective mowing in some areas (such as along uninhabited stretches of River Road) for a while with seemingly no success. Last year, I was assured by the City that mowing would be more selective but again, flowering grassy meadows were mowed down, leaving small mammals (which our raptors fed on) homeless and robbing insect life (which other birds eat) of food and nesting grounds. What's left behind for the rest of the summer is yellow stubble instead of thriving biotopes.

I will believe Delta's commitment to the environment when I see it, Mr. Mayor.
