Letters: Ladner Village OCP warrants wide-spread support

We need to open up opportunities for the neglected or underused parcels of land in the Village to become valuable parts of the whole

Editor:

The updates to land use requirements in the Ladner Village plan are modest, necessary, and worthy of widespread public support.

A wide swathe of the community was consulted and the interests of the many stakeholders in the village were balanced against each other. This was a work of compromise and lowering expectations. Though bolder strategies were considered, this plan was the accepted middle ground that would set the course for improvements within the village.

City staff put together a modest plan to allow more homes and businesses to be added to the Village core while still restricting heights, massing, and uses.

We need to open up opportunities for the neglected or underused parcels of land in the Village to become valuable parts of the whole. We need to gently densify this neighbourhood alongside all of our neighbourhoods in order to add value to every part of Delta and to make life better for every resident.

The need to provide more housing at a variety of rates is staggering: this plan I'm excited to see more housing options in the Village and I hope we'll see that council takes this seriously and vote to approve this plan on Dec. 14.
