Re: Article on Massey Tunnel Replacement; 21 October 2021 et al

Our MLA Ian Paton complains that the NDP's business case for the new Massey Tunnel must be hiding something because it contains redactions. Isn't that why information is routinely redacted from official documents?

BC Transport Minister Rob Fleming in turn explains that these redactions are made to protect the integrity of the bidding processes for the subsequent contracts for the tunnel installation. Sounds like good business to me.

During the previous Liberal government's term, when Christy Clark was so keen to get the bridge of her dreams built, I couldn't even get to see a business case - assuming there was one - let alone a redacted one. I was constantly given vague reassurances that the bridge is so much better than a tunnel.

So, I can't understand Ian Paton's gripe that some sensitive information has been redacted from the tunnel business case. Might it be because he has no other way of justifying his stubborn support for Christy Clark's bridge?
