Not everyone agrees with Brad Sherwin, that the Canada-U.S. border should be open right now, both ways, when the pandemic is still ongoing.

Re: The border won't be open until we can travel freely, both ways (Community Comment, Optimist, Nov. 4).

In his most recent Community Comment, Brad Sherwin stated that “it's time to make our border free again, both ways. Isn't that what our veterans fought for?”

The answer to that question is no. Not everyone agrees with Brad Sherwin, that the Canada-U.S. border should be open right now, both ways, when the pandemic is still ongoing.

One of them is my 97-year-old father-in-law, a veteran who fought in The Second World War and The Korean War, who lives in a care home, and is scheduled for his third (booster) shot. The veterans, like him, who survived two world wars/conflicts, risked their lives to fight against Fascism. They didn't fight for the right of some people, to go shopping for cheap gas and groceries, in the U.S.
