As I look out at the empty and under-utilized ball fields at Cromie Park (and not just since the pandemic began) and read through your newspaper about the calls for additional provincial enforcement due to off leash dogs at Boundary Bay, I really have to question the logic of turning a unused all-weather field into yet another baseball field.

There are currently 11-plus multi-field parks, which are available. In Ladner there is literally nowhere to toss a Frisbee or a ball for your dog.

Sure you can take them to a muddy, unfenced area between McDonald’s and two major roads or to Harbour Park, which lies at the edge of the river and remains unreachable for many and un-useable when wet.

A new off-leash area in Tsawwassen or North Delta doesn’t help. We need one here.

At the very least stop the constant bylaw harassment as we responsibly toss a ball for our furry friends and clean up… not only after them, but the plastic bottles, chip bags and candy wrappers we regularly come across. We are willing to work around your schedule… and we do, so let’s all work together.

If we can’t, well maybe it’s time to cut out a space for us and forego your dream of another expensive and under-utilized baseball field.
