Letters: Seen and heard on Bridge Street

If you’ve walked by or used the park, you’ll know what I’m describing and I encourage you to write to the Mayor and Council to encourage more projects like this!
Pop Up Park Ladner Village
The pop-up park in Ladner Village is a great idea and a fun, summer experience says this letter writer.

“This is awesome!”

Having spent several afternoons hanging out at the Bridge St. pop-up park in Ladner Village, I can attest to the awesomeness of what the City of Delta has done to bring new vitality to the Village for the summer.

They’ve really nailed it with the range of activities and types of seating. The crew who installed the umbrellas knew that shade would be a precious commodity in a heat wave and the parks staff who cleverly made use of recycled synthetic turf are to be commended for their resourcefulness!

Yet it’s not my take on the park that matters. It’s the chorus of positive comments I’ve heard from onlookers passing by that matters. It’s the squeals of delight from little ones who rush up to the cornhole and bocce court and discover that a part of the village street has been turned over to them for enjoyment and adventure. I’ve heard seniors challenging each other to a game of ping pong and observed entire families showing up with dinner to go. I’ve seen families showing up early in the mornings to play together while mum gets some sleep and I’ve seen crews of kids showing up to play together.

If you’ve walked by or used the park, you’ll know what I’m describing and I encourage you to write to the Mayor and Council to encourage more projects like this!

We should celebrate initiatives that boost the Village’s businesses and benefit everyone who is drawn to a free, friendly, and fantastic place to gather and wile away the summery days.
