As a new resident to Tsawwassen, and an avid cyclist, I’d just like to raise awareness to other cyclists in South Delta, that riding bikes on sidewalks is not safe or legal.

I’ve lived in this community for just over a year now, and I’ve noticed cyclists young and old riding their bikes on sidewalks, instead of on the roads. A few weeks into living here, I asked my wife (who grew up in this community): ‘is there something in the water here? I’ve never seen so many bike riders using the sidewalks.’

This action agitates pedestrians on the sidewalks, and also gives cyclists a bad name.

On a number of occasions I’ve witnessed older residents scramble, as a cyclist in their twenties rides up behind them. I’m pleading with my fellow cyclists, have the confidence to ‘share the roads’ with cars, and leave the sidewalks for the bipedal and those in mobility devices.
