Letters: Thanking our amazing community

I am so incredibly touched by everyone’s generosity.
Thank you letter

Recently, on Monday, May 16 just after 4 a.m. the Tsawwassen building I live in was broken into. The thieves got away with my 10-year-old sons brand new BMX bike.

The bike was a lot of money and was a special “turning 10” splurge, so it was definitely a punch in the gut especially, since I am full-time working single-mother raising him on one income.

Luckily it was all caught on surveillance footage, and I was able to get a snap shot of the three thieves. I posted the pictures on the Tsawwassen Loop Facebook page, with a description of what had happened, hoping someone might recognize one of them.

What transpired next is just so amazing and incredible and exactly why this is the absolute best community ever.

Within hours of the post I received an outpouring of support and people asking if they could donate money to buy my son a new bike. I wasn’t expecting that type of response and didn’t even know how to respond.

Little did I know someone on this Facebook group was already organizing the donations and by the end of the day local businesses and individuals had donated more than $900 (just over what the bike initially cost), to buy my sons bike back. A new lock was even donated.

It’s just so touching seeing the community come together like that to support my son. I am so incredibly touched by everyone’s generosity.
